Flipped Learning Network Ning

A professional learning community for teachers using screencasting in education.

In this video we watch Aaron Sams of Woodland Park High School as he teaches a class. Note that you don't see him in front of kids teaching, you see him interacting with students who are all engaged in their learning.

Bridget: One of the best things we see is that the students do just that: They take responsibility for their own learning (this is a learning process for them, but most eventually get it). Frankly I belive it is magic.

Jon: we are doing this with a minimum of technology: some of it really old. It can be done on a shoestring. Dive in or chip away? It depends on your situation. If possible, I would try and come to one of our conferences this summer. We talk about how we tackled this one step at a time.

I want very much to jump into this world of teaching, but am worried I won't be able to direct it in the right direction. Would you recommend just "going for it" or keep chipping away at planning a launch in the future. I seem to run into obstacles in terms of technology, class time ideas and tracking progress. (All in my head I suppose).

Yes: they are constantly taking on more responsibility. In fact: I think the MOST valuable thing our stuents are walking away with is just that: They realize that education is their own responsibility. I am doing this with both my junior chemistry students and my struggling freshmen students. It is amazing to see them all working toward learning. I couldn't go back to the old stand and deliver method.
Thanks for watching. Have a great day

phew...I bet that is exhausting. How do you keep track of it all? Do you feel that the students take on more of the responsibility with this technique?
