Using Moodle Activity Logs for Parent and Student Feedback

One of the biggest complaints I hear in implementing mastery learning is "You're not teaching my child anything!" I know I am preaching to the choir here, but as we know, it's not abouty "teaching" it's about "learning." We put a tremendous effort into developing a mastery learning course plan, and we've seen how some thrive in it and some flounder. It really bugs me when a kid is a "student" and not a "learner", and complains to their parents that they are not learning anything.

I…

Hi Phillip,

Could you please send me the presentation that you used last year with the parents at the open house night? And if you have a powerpoint that goes over procedures and expectation of the students in class I would really appreciate it. My e-mail is hbrothers@lexington1.net   Thanks :-)

Hi Phillip,

Sorry to bother you again but I was wondering if you could send me the PDF to your presentation that you used last year with the parents at the open house night? Thanks!

Hi Phillip, I was wondering what some of your classroom procedures are while students are working - who gets first use of compuer in classroom? What does a student do while they wait for you if your busy with another student? How many times they can come up per class to you to get checked off for an assignment...any other procedures that I may be not thinking of right now....I would really aprechiate your help. Maybe you have a power point you wouldn't mind sharing that explains the class procedures to student...Thanks so much!

Hi Philip,

I am going to be flipping my 7th grade Science Classes next year and am wondering if you have any letters/syllabus you give the students/parents at the beggining of the year explaing how class works that I could take a look at to help me get started??? Thanks so much for your help :-)

Philip, you have worked so hard to compile your question banks in Moodle.  The video you created on linking graphics will save me so much time!  I was hoping you could save me even more time.  I am going to start my first year of Flipping this Fall, is it possible to get a copy of your question banks?  I know you have put SO much time into creating it, it almost seems wrong for me to ask....

Actually, I just got rolling. I was out all last week (new baby) and managed to keep my Chemistry class moving forward with recorded lectures. As of today both sections of Chemistry and my 7th grade Per-Algebra classes will be flipped. Since I am getting going mid-year, I will look to be 100% flipped next school year and then tackle the shift to mastery learning the following.

So far I really enjoy it, though I have wrinkles to iron out (like best ways for kids to get the lectures and some good class activities to enhance the Chemistry classes especially.)
