This group is for talking about creating DIY books for flipped courses. I'm imagining online books, but they might be paper, too.
Most flippy talk is about video, not the usual Web text/image combination. Both are useful. Video is engaging, but harder to edit and search. A book that combines both may be better than one that is pure video or pure text/image.
I've been working on flippy textbook tools for several years. There's a brief story here.
Anyone got experiences to share? Tools you've used? Wishlists for tools (e. g., "I would like a tool that...")?
Anyone with a hankerin' to write their own books, for their own special circumstances?
I'm experimenting with creating digital textbooks (ePubs) that can be read on an iPad and used in a flipped classroom. I recently stumbled up Wes Fryer's…Continue

I might be able to help you conceptualize your project. You can help me better understand what authors want.

Points to a CoreDogs book that is the model (more-or-less) for FlippedTextbook. Shows how the book is different from a regular book.

Go to http://flippedtextbook.com. The goal is to let people create textbooks that implement learning science principles. All using Web tech. Only a browser needed.

Great work!
Comment by Brett Westbrook on February 14, 2012 at 12:08pm Kieran--Can I create an etext with CoreDogs? Is it essentially creating a web page that functions like a text (only better)?
Comment by Gary Bass on December 24, 2011 at 12:01am The livescribe pen would provide the interactivity and audio track
doceri for the ipad does a similar thing, though it needs a computer to interface before posting as a movie.
interactives using multiple choice with branching story lines might be a way of constructing and recording student learning and understanding..
only one path would be correct..and a 'how to' tutorial would followup on the students incorrect choices.
a ten line calculus solution may have ten or fifteen decisions/choices
by allowing students to choose incorrectly, and their reasons why..this would identify their misconceptions and point the way for intervention
veritasium has videos in physics in this manner
completely opposite approach to Khan academy which merely reinforces misconceptions by passively watching
Comment by Kieran Mathieson on December 23, 2011 at 11:51am Patterns are common solutions to common problems. For example, a navigation bar is a common way to help people navigate a Web site.
Patterns can help with deep learning. They help learners bridge the gap from abstract task goals, to concrete solutions.
