I am trying to find a way to get smart pens into the hands of my college students. This past semester I was beta-testing a new math book, so I had my students purchase smart pens instead of a text.…Continue

I currently use my smartpen for several things:1) I use the smartpen to create online lessons for my students. I would like to eventually flip my algebra classes, but I am still creating the…Continue

One of the things I like about a screencast is that I can edit the work before I publish it. Can you do the same with a pencast? I bought a Livescribe and plan to use it next fall when school…Continue

I am excited to tell you that with help from a friend at Livescribe, I am now able to embed original text and a Livescribe penast into the same PDF! I created an interactive test key yesterday,…Continue

Comment by Leonard C. Klein on January 24, 2012 at 4:38pm I like the stations idea as well. I will have to think about how to work that into my chem class. Thanks for the great idea.
Comment by Sue Glascoe on January 24, 2012 at 6:58am You should have no problem posting them on your moodle page. Have fun:)
We are getting 3 pens to be shared by 8 teachers (but really just 3 of us ;-p). I'm expecting to have one pen in the classroom, but I suppose we could borrow each other's when necessary. You make a good point about keeping track of which pen recorded which note. The stations idea sounds most workable for us. I'd like to be able to post any/all recordings on my Moodle page whether I created them or the students did.
Comment by Sue Glascoe on January 16, 2012 at 2:55pm Gary,
It works well to only have 1 or 2 pens in a classroom because you must use the same pen to play the recording on paper, sticky note or sound dot, so if you have too many pens it gets confusing as to which pen recorded which note!
When you listen to the pencasts on a computer, it does not require anything but a Flash player on your browser :) If you have the students in groups, each group can record their ideas, or it can be a station that students rotate to.
Comment by Sue Glascoe on January 16, 2012 at 2:53pm Kristen, do you plan to have each teacher with their own pen, or will the pens all be in the same classroom? It changes how you might want to set them up and use them.
Comment by Gary Bass on January 14, 2012 at 5:09pm I'm looking forward to hearing more from this group in the near future. Our order for Livescribe pens just went in this week and we're hoping the arrive soon. What's the easiest way to get started with the pen? and, how much of a learning curve is there for using them? This is my year of tech it seems with learning to use a Flipcam, Moodle, the Livescribe pen, plus being a first time flipper.
Comment by Sue Glascoe on May 25, 2011 at 5:00pm I am excited to see who joins this group so we can get started on exchanging ideas on how to use the smartpen to enhance teaching and learning!
