First time env sci teacher - help w/ course outline 6 Replies

I will be teaching this in the fall and do not have a course outline. I have downloaded a topic outline, but this is all I have. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate some help.

I set up a test bank wiki that you can use as one of your question sources for Moodle.  Please email me at mrheilbrunn@gmail.com if you want to join it.

I recognize a few names from the APES listserve, welcome to the flip!  The Chem Dept at my school began flipping last year and I am looking forward to flipping my general Env Sci class this fall.

We use Moodle as our online learning environment through which we offer resources to our students.  The version of Moodle we use is free (I believe) and provides more functionality (journaling, forums, quizzes, various formative assessments) than we were able to learn how to use in a year.  However, it is closed to the public, unlike a wikipage, and students must be registered into the class and receive a username and password.

By the way, I added a "Page" for us to post the topics (and ostensibly links) that we make or are thinking of making.  I hope you will find a few minutes to add what you've got.  It's called Topics for Videos" and is on the right side of this page, under the highlighted PAGES.

Thanks, I think I will try screen cast-o-matic until I get the iPads with grant money.

I've got an iPad and plan to try using Explain Everything and just annotate a few images (writing and speaking) to make short clips.  I'm aiming for 5 min a piece.  I've got Jing on my laptop, but found it less versatile as the app.  I'm still learning the logistics of the app, though.  We'll see how it goes.

I use Camtasia on a mac and I love it.

Camtasia is one software suite that has both PC and Mac versions that can be used to capture and edit video. There are many more also.

Can someone tell me how to start? What software is easiest to use for screen capture and writing? I just read a few comments elsewhere on this site and it sounds like for PC users I need some sort of software.

I will be teaching environmental science for the first time next year. I flipped my integrated science classes this year with great success. I am looking to create, share etc any environmental science resources for a flipped class.

I'm building an open Wikispace for Sustainability that can be found here:

https://ths-sustainability.wikispaces.com/ While the work is still very much "in-the-works" and needs some content organization, please feel free to add content topics or resource links if you like.
