Thanks for the Prezi/Discovery Education idea. I'm working on a unit right now and I'm going to upload the video segments onto the unit Prezi. Thanks for sharing!
Comment by rebecca berardino on March 24, 2013 at 6:08pm I have been using Edmodo for 2 years but only flipping for this current year. I have found the organizational capabilities and the collaborative nature to be the most valuable.
I teach 3 different levels of Math so I organize my library according to the units for each level. I upload my videos (I started with smartnotebook recorder but now use Camtaisa) , notes packets, practice packets, internet interactives, answer keys, etc. The students can then access all materials for the year at any time.
They are able to communicate with others in the class as well as me. Students have really enjoyed this part of the program.
Additionally, when we work on a project, I can set up a separate group and then organize them into "small groups" according to who they are working with. This enables them to work together but it's not cumbersome and distracting for the group as a whole.

I have been using Edmodo for several years now. I run more of a hybrid classroom than a Flipped Classroom, but we are planning on Flipping classes next year. Edmodo has allowed my students to access work they missed or would like to review later. They also can ask questions outside of normal classroom hours. As for videos within Edmodo, our district has access to Discovery Education, I use a combination of Prezi.com and Discovery Ed to post videos in my classes.
I download clips from Discovery Education and then upload them into Prezi along with focus questions and other background notes. I keep the Prezis private due to copyright restrictions with Discovery Education. This format is posted in my main class feed as we are using it, then they get pushed into folders once used. This keeps my main feed uncluttered and gives the students easy access later. Other teachers have uploaded videos directly into Edmodo for students to view. You can upload any file as long as it is 100Mb or smaller.
I was able to keep my students on pace last year with this method while my daughter was in the hospital after a surgery.
Comment by Becky Ince on March 22, 2013 at 12:21pm I have been using Edmodo for a year and absolutely love it! However, I am not using the flipped approach, can someone inform me how you are using Edmodo for the Flipped Instruction? What video program do you use? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Comment by Federico Berton on September 25, 2012 at 9:22pm Hello everybody! I'm from Argentina, I started flipping my lessons 6 monts ago, I'm new in this. While putting into practice the flipped approach I'm using Edmodo. Looking forward to working together and learning together!
Comment by Kris Full on July 31, 2012 at 8:45pm @ Jessica - I am also a Journalism teacher - new to Edmodo and seeing the possibilities of the flipping/edmodo combination. I have several students who want to be in my class, but can't fit it into their schedule, so I'm looking into some form of blended/hybrid/flipped lessons - just don't know where to start. I would like to see an example of a Journalism lesson done like this using Edmodo. I want it to be more than just another powerpoint lesson. Do you or anyone else in this group have any ideas for me? Glad to be a part of this group!

Comment by Jessica Groff on July 31, 2012 at 7:53pm I have been using Edmodo for 2 years, and I am SO EXCITED to start using it to flip my Digital Journalism class in the fall. I'm planning on posting lessons about how to write different styles of news articles, as well as having a guest speaker talk about web design, so that the students can access the information on their own time and spend class time creating the school's digital newspaper. I use the English Companion Ning religiously, and hope that this will be my second go-to site for the upcoming school year.
Thanks so much for starting this group! :)
Thanks for the codes! I just joined both groups!
