I wanted to invite all of the AP teachers to check out a review website that I built.  It allows teachers to create interactive review games for their students.  You can create a game specific for the video that students watched.  A new tool for the "flipped" teacher toolbox.  You can register on the top right hand side of the homepage.  This is a FREE resource for teachers and students.  Play the demo game on the homepage- http://www.bubbabrain.com   Contact me if you have any questions.  DMC1970@aol.com

Hi there!!   I was planning on flipping my class this upcoming year, but then I found out that we were cutting the AP Calculus BC class.  I just found out that I was going to be teaching it after all, and now the pressure is on to gte myself organizeed to flip this class.  I am not very tech saavy, so I was thinking of using otheres videos.  Does anyone out there mind me using some of your videos?  Any adavice for the newcomer to this style of teaching?  I am an old guy, but I think this might better help my students and I want to give it a try.

For those who have flipped:  How does your typical classes go?  Are the videos the only homework that you have?  Besides being prepared for class, is there a way you check their homework?  Is the typical class setup to first answer questions, then compete homework propblems/activities?  If anyone has any material/actvities that they would like to share to help me get on my way, please do.  I could use it!!

I am a vet AP Calculus Teacher.

I have provided video  tutorials to released AP Calculus Exams for my students via Wikipedia and Wix.

I am new to this forum, although I do recognize many of the AP Calculus teacher's names because I have visited their websites.

I use Larson's 8th Ed (digital).

I am always interested in seeing what others are doing to increase student achievement and conceptual understanding.

Sally,  I flipped a few AP Chem units this year, and I am going to flip all of AP Chem next year.I will be the conference; looking forward to meeting other AP chem flippers and sharing strategies.

I am a new AP Chemistry teacher (I also teach Physical Science and Chemistry) and was told that I could flip one class/section as a trial for next year.  I am thinking about "flipping" AP-or at least incorporating the videos.  I'm not sure if I am ready to make that a mastery class.  I also like the idea of having them watch some of the videos before they actually start the course-I am on the 4x4 block and don't get to teach AP until 2nd semester.  I'm coming to the conference in June and would love to talk to others who also plan to flip AP.

Interested in contributing to an AP Biology Flipping collaborative?  We need your help!  Mary Wuerth has created a wiki space for us to collaborate on vodcasts.  Go to this site and you can select which topic you would like to make a vodcast for.  Then we can all share what we made - this makes for a lot less work and it allows our students to see different styles of teaching besides our own.

I did a lot of the recording during the summer ... it took some time, but I feel like it was all worth it. Most lessons had around 25 to 30 min of video to watch ... which was tough since lectures used to take 1hr+. Many had to finish the assignments at home, but at least they were finishing and not just starting. It's AP Calc ... there's going to be a time commitment outside of class. Prep for the exam seems to be dependent on how much time, energy, and focus each student wants to put into it.

Things I want to do differently next yr ...
1. I added short quizzes for them to self assess their understanding ... no grade attached, just wanted to have a quick way for them to see if it made sense before coming to class ... I might even record a solution to each problem.
2. Every yr (even this one) the number of kids who can't remember some basic rules and definitions from earlier in the year is maddenning ... need to incorporate more "review" into class time ... more spiraling ... something to keep first semester connected to second

Thanks Chad. A lot of work but I like the layout and what you provided students. I was thinking of a similar format. How long did the prep take each week?

How much time did they spend on HW (viewing the vids, completing the notes)

How did your students' preparation appear this year compared to last year going into the exam?

I know this year they were asking me some questions they should not have been the day before the exam. There has to be a better way.
